Burrard Street Bridge, 1932

When Vancouver set out to link its growing downtown to the neighborhoods across False Creek, the city turned to a bold new Art Deco bridge—part steel truss workhorse, part civic landmark and gateway. Built in the late 1920’s and opened in 1932, the Burrard Street Bridge has carried generations of commuters, runners, and cyclists between the city’s core and the West Side, becoming one of Vancouver’s most recognizable silhouettes on the skyline. Being part of its construction is a point of pride in HKM’s history, and a reminder of how durable infrastructure and thoughtful design can keep serving a city long after it’s construction.
