Strathmore Lodge Elevator Modernization

History Recreated.

Built in 1909, Strathmore Lodge is a historic apartment building located in the heart of Vancouver’s leafy West End neighbourhood. The building showcases all its original heritage charm while also offering all the amenities necessary for modern living. Strathmore is situate on tree-line Bute St. at Comox, and is nestled between community gardens, parks, and summer farmers’ market. After a century of service, the Elevator and it’s old, but still moving parts, were due for a change. With the direction of GUNN Elevator Consultants, HKM was able to dismantle a piece of history ever so carefully and replace it with a modern piece of equipment. A full structural upgrade to the building elevator shaft was required to accommodate the new equipment and cab while still preserving the shaft exterior finishes. Unfortunately the Bumpy Ride to the top floor was unable to be preserved and was replaced with a new smooth hydraulic lift system.
